About Liberia

A small country on the Atlantic Ocean in Western Africa, Liberia is a nation on the cusp of revolutionary recovery. Only five years since a decade-long civil war ended and a mere three years since Africa’s first female elected head of state, Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf, took the reigns as president, the healing in this war torn nation has begun in earnest. A democratically elected government is in place. The land is free of strife. The people of Liberia have a renewed sense of hope. But help is still needed. As of 2006, Liberia had the highest population growth rate in the world and the nation is struggling to keep up.

Over half its population is under the age of 18, with limited education, skills and resources and 85 percent are unemployed. As recently as March 11, 2008, the United Nations Mission in Liberia warned that donor resources for humanitarian action are decreasing. We invite you to review the list of needs, search your heart and give accordingly. All monetary and material donations will go directly to their intended purpose, and therefore directly to help those in need.
